PE
Welcome to our Physical Education journey, where every child is encouraged to develop confidence, resilience and a lifelong love of being active. From Early Years through to Year 6, our PE curriculum supports children to grow physically, socially and emotionally, helping them to become healthy, active and confident individuals. We use the Get Set 4 PE scheme to support the delivery of our curriculum, ensuring clear progression in knowledge, skills and vocabulary across all year groups.
In the Early Years, children begin their journey through play-based and exploratory movement. They run, jump, balance, climb and move creatively, developing coordination, strength and confidence in a safe and engaging environment. Through the Get Set 4 PE scheme, children are provided with carefully planned activities that build physical literacy and encourage a positive attitude towards physical activity from the very beginning of their school journey. These early experiences lay the foundations for lifelong participation in sport and exercise.
As pupils move through the school, their skills are built step-by-step through a carefully sequenced and progressive curriculum. Using the Get Set 4 PE scheme, children develop fundamental movement skills before applying them in a wide range of sports and activities, including games, gymnastics, dance, athletics and outdoor adventurous activities. This structured progression ensures that knowledge and skills are secure and can be confidently applied in different contexts.
Our teachin
g approach is active, inclusive and engaging. Lessons include demonstrations, small group work, discussion and opportunities for children to practise and refine their skills. The Get Set 4 PE scheme provides high-quality resources and clear learning sequences that support teachers in delivering motivating and purposeful lessons. We also use a variety of experiences, including competitions, workshops and links with local clubs, to enrich learning and inspire participation beyond the classroom.
In PE lessons, you will see children working collaboratively, taking on challenges, supporting one another and striving to improve their personal best. They learn to think about their performance, evaluate their progress and develop key life skills such as teamwork, communication, resilience and leadership. Through the Get Set 4 PE approach, children are encouraged to reflect on their learning and celebrate both individual and team achievements.
We are proud to provide opportunities for pupils to represent the school in a wide range of sporting events and competitions throughout the year. Children are encouraged to develop confidence, determination and sportsmanship as they take part in inter-school competitions, festivals and tournaments. Our sporting opportunities cater for all pupils, offering pathways for both competitive and elite performance as well as inclusive participation events where every child can experience success, enjoyment and teamwork. Representing the school helps children develop pride, responsibility and resilience while creating lasting memories and experiences.
One of the highlights of our sporting calendar is our annual Sports Day — a fully inclusive event that celebrates participation, achievement and team spirit. Sports Day provides opportunities for every child to take part in a range of activities designed to challenge, motivate and inspire. Alongside competitive races and events for children who enjoy competition and aspire to excel in sport, there are also inclusive activities that encourage collaboration, perseverance and enjoyment for all. Families and the wider school community join together to celebrate the children’s efforts, determination and successes, making it a memorable and positive experience for everyone involved.
We place strong emphasis on inclusion and ensuring that every child feels valued and successful. Our curriculum promotes equality, celebrates individual achievement and provides opportunities for all pupils to participate and thrive, regardless of ability or background. The inclusive nature of the Get Set 4 PE scheme enables all children to access learning, develop confidence and experience success within PE lessons.
By the time pupils reach Year 6, they are confident movers who can apply their skills across a range of activities. They understand how to stay healthy, work effectively as part of a team and take responsibility for their own physical development. Most importantly, they leave us with the motivation and confidence to continue leading active, healthy lives.
Physical Education is more than just sport; it is a journey that develops the whole child—building healthy bodies, confident minds and positive attitudes that last a lifetime.
